Removing the manual steps between a result and a record: analyser integration, register generation, statutory reporting and staff productivity.
Automation in a blood centre is worth doing where a step is both repetitive and error-prone, and it is worth avoiding everywhere else. Reading TTI results off an analyser instead of transcribing them removes an entire class of transcription error on the one result that must never be wrong. Generating the monthly eRaktKosh summary from records that already exist removes an evening of somebody's month and the discrepancies that come with recompiling the same facts by hand.
What should not be automated is a decision. A deferral, a discard, the release of a unit for issue — these belong to a person who is accountable for them, and the software's job is to make sure the decision is recorded, attributed and hard to bypass, not to make it. Systems that blur this are the ones that produce an audit trail nobody can defend.
The posts here deal with analyser integration, register and report generation, staff productivity, and what changes operationally when the manual steps come out.
