RAKT vs Birlamedisoft: comparing blood bank software for an Indian blood centre
A broad hospital software portfolio with a blood bank product in it, against a system that only does blood banking. That difference is the whole comparison.
We wrote this page, so here is what it will and will not do
RAKT built this page, which means you should not accept our account of a competitor’s product and we are not going to offer one. There is no tick-and-cross matrix below. We cannot see inside Birlamedisoft, we cannot know how it behaves at a live centre, and a table where we win every row would tell you only that we made the table.
What is below instead: how Birlamedisoft describes itself, taken from its own public material and last checked in July 2026; the reason a reader might reasonably choose it over us; what RAKT does, stated specifically enough to hold us to; and three questions to put to Birlamedisoft directly. If any of those questions gets a worse answer from us than from them, choose them.
If you work at Birlamedisoft and something here is out of date or wrong, write to us and we will correct it. That offer is the only warranty a vendor comparison can honestly carry.
How Birlamedisoft positions itself
Summarised from the vendor’s own public material, July 2026.
Birlamedisoft (birlamedisoft.com) is a Pune-based healthcare software company with a wide product range spanning hospital information systems, pathology, pharmacy and blood bank management, offered as hosted and on-premise deployments.
Why you might choose Birlamedisoft over RAKT
Single-vendor coverage is a genuine advantage. If you are buying an HIS, a pathology system and a blood bank system at once, one supplier, one contract and one support line is worth real money and real time, and RAKT cannot offer it. We integrate with your HIS rather than being it.
Likely to suit: A hospital procuring several clinical systems together and deliberately consolidating vendors.
What RAKT does, stated so you can hold us to it
Every line below is testable in a demo. Ask us to fail one.
The gates are enforced, not advisory
A component cannot be allotted until grouping and TTI screening are complete and the unit has moved to tested stock, a reactive result moves the bag out of issuable stock on its own, and nobody at the counter can override either. Ask us to issue an untested bag in the demo. Emergency release before crossmatch is deliberately possible, because clinically it has to be, and it is flagged on the request rather than passing silently.
Registers generated, not typed
Over a hundred registers and returns, including the Donor, Grouping, TTI, Component Preparation, Stock, Crossmatch, Issue, Patient-Recipient and Discard registers, plus a report builder for the format your state council asks for and nobody else does.
eRaktKosh submitted and reconciled
Built from the bags your staff already entered, validated against the national schema, then submitted to the MOHFW API in one action rather than keyed into the portal. The portal’s reply comes back on the same screen, so a rejection is visible immediately instead of weeks later. Tested stock is also exposed on an endpoint eRaktKosh polls, so public availability does not go stale between returns.
One person behind every value
Named accounts rather than a shared login, permissions by role and by centre, and an append-only history of who changed which value when. Unlimited accounts, because per-user pricing is what makes a three-shift blood bank share credentials.
Camps run on a tablet
RAKT Pass registers donors at the camp with questionnaire, screening vitals and deferral check, prints the donor label on site, and reconciles the day’s collection back into centre stock the same day. 5,883 camps run so far.
Leaving is not chargeable
A complete export of your registers and records, in formats you can open, at no cost and on request. Schedule F retention obligations outlast any contract, so charging for access to compliance records is a hold no blood centre should accept.
Three questions to put to Birlamedisoft, and to us
Ask both vendors the same three and compare the answers rather than the brochures.
- How much of the blood bank product’s roadmap is blood-bank specific, and when was the last release that changed it rather than the HIS?
- Does it handle camp collection away from the centre, with donor registration and label printing on site, and reconciliation back into stock?
- Are donor deferral history and stock shared across multiple blood bank licences, or held separately per installation?
The full evaluation this is drawn from is on the buyer’s guide: eleven tests to run inside the demo rather than after it. It is written to be used against us as much as against anybody else.
Questions about this comparison
Is Birlamedisoft better than RAKT?
For some centres, yes. Single-vendor coverage is a genuine advantage. If you are buying an HIS, a pathology system and a blood bank system at once, one supplier, one contract and one support line is worth real money and real time, and RAKT cannot offer it. We integrate with your HIS rather than being it. We have not published a matrix claiming otherwise because we cannot verify how Birlamedisoft behaves at a live site, and neither can any listing page. Run the same eleven tests against both and weight them by what your centre is actually exposed to.
How do I compare two blood bank software quotes fairly?
Normalise both to a three-year total before you compare anything. Add migration of existing history, training after go-live, hardware such as label printers and camp tablets, the renewal or annual maintenance figure for year three, whether statutory format changes are absorbed or billed, integration with your analyser models, and the cost of a full data export on exit. The cost page sets all seven out.
Can you switch from Birlamedisoft to RAKT?
Yes, and the constraint is usually the export rather than the import. We bring across donor records, donation history, deferrals and current stock, and preserve existing unit numbering and register formats where you need continuity. Ask your current vendor for a complete export in an openable format first, and start that conversation before you sign anything with us.
Who wrote this comparison?
RAKT did, which is why it contains no claims about what Birlamedisoft cannot do. Their positioning is summarised from their own public material as of July 2026. If you work there and something is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will change it.
See RAKT on your own registers
Running at 200+ blood centres across 24 states. Send your register formats, analyser models and state, and we will run the demo on those rather than on ours.
